Understanding what a concussion is, how to recognize them, and how to safely manage a concussed athlete back into the classroom and the sporting environment.

The Concussion Sideline Course provides a basic understanding of concussions, how to recognize them, and how to safely manage concussed athletes. The course also includes information on using the Concussion Tracker App for seamless communication between sports teams, schools, parents, and the medical team.

Course Itinerary:

The Concussion Sideline – concussion-in-sports certification covers the following topics:

  • Concussion Basics – understanding the signs and symptoms of a concussion and what happens inside the brain during a concussion.
  • When a Concussion is Suspected – knowing when to remove someone from play and how to assess and monitor a concussion.
  • Baseline Testing – the purpose and types of baseline testing for athletes.
  • Concussion Management – where to send athletes for treatment and follow-up care and who should make the return-to-play decisions.
  • Return-to-Learn & Play – the stages of recovery for an athlete and when they can return to practice or games.
  • CCMI’s Concussion Tracker App – how to report an injury, add a team roster, and view progress on injured athletes.
